Bow Detail

The Bluenose was built in 1921 in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia to win races for Canada, but to qualify for the International Fishermen's Trophy Cup she had to be a working vessel as well. Proved in the rough waters off of Newfoundland, in her first year she won the cup, and in challenges over the next 17 years she never lost it.

The Bluenose was a salt banker type. She stayed out until her holds were full, using salt to preserve the catch. She was lost on a reef near Haiti in 1946, but an exact replica was launched in 1963.
